Our greatest fear (as individuals and as a church) should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter. [Francis Chan]

What is it that you are trying to succeed in? Will that success ultimately matter?

If you analyzed your life and assessed where you were putting all of your efforts and the majority of your time, would it pleasing in God’s eyes? Are you spending 80 hours a week trying to climb the corporate ladder that leaves you sacrificing time with your family and with God? Are you finding time for parties, happy hour and other social events, but too tired to wake up early on Sundays or volunteer at a local shelter? Are you too quick to buy that designer handbag or the latest iPhone, but falling short on tithing? Are you judging the homeless without showing Christlike love?

I know I can admit to a few of those things.. if not all of those at times. Too often we place too much emphasis on worldly success and how others define us. What we might define as a success is actually a failure if we achieve it at the cost of what really matters. God wants our best, deserves our best and demands our best. He wants all or nothing.

So… I ask again.. What is it that you are trying to succeed in? Will that success ultimately matter? If not, maybe your focus needs to change.

I know mine does.

Back in February, I hosted a Cutest Couples Contest on my facebook page and this couple was my lucky winner! With well over two hundred votes, Mark and Morgan became the 2012 Kristina Kerns Photography Cutest Couple! Thanks to all their friends and the power of social media, they earned themselves a free photo session at Maymont Park.

These guys were open to anything so we were able to get some really great shots capturing their love and the joy that bursts from their relationship. Morgan was such a trooper being willing to sit just about anywhere with that gorgeous dress on. I’m so glad she was as some of my favorite shots came from the intimate moments of them sitting in the grass. And this girl really knows how to pull off that foot pop.. there was no directing on my end.. she’s a true natural!

Sarah is one of my 2013 Senior Representatives and boy did she rock her session! From bringing the sass to posing with ducks, Sarah and I had so much fun! And finding ways to change outfits in the middle of the park definitely added to the excitement! Look at this girl.. isn’t she gorgeous?!?

Here’s more from my Mother’s Day Senior Portrait session with Zoe! This gorgeous girl came with the perfect outfit for those flowers! We loved that look so much she even changed back into it after we photographed her in some of the other outfits. While she totally rocked each look, this outfit really pulled all of the colors in the garden together. I can’t help but think she planned it! Continue reading

“A new baby is like the beginning of all things-wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.” ~Eda J. Le Shan

I had the honor and pleasure to be a part of something pretty incredible… a gender reveal. And while we didn’t do it exactly by the book, it was still amazing. When they decided to do a gender reveal session, they hadn’t been told the sex of the baby yet. So, I headed to the party store and bought both blue and pink balloons. People watching us during the session must have thought she was having twins.. but thankfully, for Breanne and Justin’s sanity, there’s just one little bundle of joy in her tummy.

So.. take a look and enjoy both the suspense and joy that flows throughout…

If you’re joining me for the first time, you may not know about Twizzler. But rest assured, I’ve blogged about her a dozen or so times in the past year, so you have plenty of ways to catch up.. the first being here.. and while other posts about her are important, the most important one is here. Twizzler is my dog daughter. And today is her birthday.

She passed away exactly eight months ago. September 23, 2011… a day I’ll never forget. She was only four. She died of lymphoma. And while my heart aches just thinking of her, I know deep down that she is happy and healthy and playing fetch with Jesus. Continue reading

Sarah | Senior Portrait

Over the weekend I had the honor of photographing the beautiful Sarah. She is a rising senior at Midlothian High School and has a personality that truly shines! Her happy go lucky nature definitely helped out during our session as she was willing to climb, crawl and even break the law in order to get the perfect shots. Even though this one area was blocked off, we proceeded anyways and thankfully we did.. because we got this great shot. More to come!

Zoe | Senior Portrait

This past Sunday, I headed out with Zoe to take her senior portraits and what made this session even more special was the fact that we both brought our moms along for the ride. When doing senior portraits, most people bring at least one other person with them.. to help with outfits, hair, makeup touch-ups, etc. However, I’ve never brought my mom along with me to a shoot. It was Mother’s Day and naturally I wanted to spend the day with her. I scheduled Zoe’s session without even realizing it was a holiday. Instead of rescheduling, I invited my mom along for trip. And thank goodness, I did. Madness awaited us when we arrived at the park. I’ve never seen so many people in one place before. Thanks to my mom, we were able to get some shots of Zoe without anyone in the background. Who knew she’d be such a help?!? I know she was so excited to see me in action and now to see the fruits of my labor… So, here is just a quick peek into Zoe’s session. Many more to come!

Morgan and Mark were such a fun couple to photograph. I am so grateful I had the opportunity of photographing them. Back in February, I hosted a Cutest Couples Contest on my facebook page and this couple was my lucky winner! With 219 votes, Morgan and Mark came out on top as Kristina Kerns Photography’s Cutest Couple. This past weekend the couple turned in their winnings and earned themselves a free photo session. While I have many more photos to share, here is a quick sneak peek into their session…

This past weekend I served on the leadership team for Richmond Chrysalis Flight 60. For those of you who don’t know anything about Chrysalis/Emmaus, it is a Thursday-Sunday Christian retreat. Emmaus is designed for adults, Chrysalis for youth and Journey for young adults. If you ever have the chance to attend one of these weekends, go. Don’t think twice. Just go. It will be with a doubt one of the most remarkable weekends of your life. You can learn more about Chrysalis/Emmaus here.

I went on my Chrysalis weekend as a sophomore in high school and teamed on leadership multiple times since. Last summer I teamed for the first time as an adult and was really affected by the outpouring of agape love I felt throughout the weekend (You can read more about that experience here). This time, however, I was in a much different role. I served as Head Adult Logistics and my weekend was consumed with making sure we were on time, that we were sticking to the schedule and ensuring everyone was where they needed to be at every second of the weekend. I left on Sunday emotionally, physically and mentally drained. I had put so much time into preparing for this weekend. Countless hours were spent organizing, planning and laying out every millisecond of that weekend. When it came time to go home on Sunday, I was ready. I was beyond ready. With only 10 hours of sleep throughout those four days, I was ready to go home, give my husband a kiss and call it a night. Continue reading
