Life is hard.. and it can down right stink at times. It can stink so bad the neighbor down the street can smell it. (Yup, no need to reread.. I did just say that.) Now, I don’t know about you, but my life has been awfully smelly lately.

However, deep down, okay, maybe deep deep DEEP down, I know that God has an amazing plan in store for the future. I’m not sure why we face all these crazy challenges or why bad things happen to good people. And I don’t know why there are natural disasters or why cancer exists. I don’t know any of these answers, but I do know that there is a much greater God behind all of it and He is BOUND to have a purpose for it all. There has to be something good that comes from it. We may not see it today or tomorrow or even in our lifetime, but it will come and God will reveal His amazing plan.

As humans, we tend to blame God a lot. We blame Him for car accidents that kill dear friends. We blame Him for the Alzheimer’s that has overtaken a grandparent’s mind. We blame Him for the hurricanes that wipe out millions. We blame God for all sorts of things. We even blame Him when we know He’s not the one to blame. We blame Him for leaving us when we need Him most and for not answering our prayers. But, sometimes God gives us what we need rather than what we want. And sometimes He lets us stay broken in ways we might not feel comfortable with in order to show Himself in an even greater way. Think of the story of the broken vessel in Jeremiah. The clay pot was broken and was thought to be ruined. But the potter reworked it into a new clay pot the way he wanted to make it. The same is true with God. He comes behind us and picks up our broken pieces and shapes us into a new vessel. And we’ll never be perfect, but God wants His light to shine through us, to shine through all of our cracks and broken pieces.

I honestly believe that God tends to reveal Himself the most when we are our weakest. We pray and pray for something good to happen; for God to reveal Himself to us and nothing ever seems to happen. But sometimes, we aren’t looking in the right places. I’m sure most of you have heard the poem “Footprints” by Mary Stevenson (if you haven’t you can view it here) and in the poem we question why God leaves us when our pain is the worst and when we need Him the most. But God so humbly replies by saying when we see only one set of footprints in the sand that is when He carried us. God never leaves us. (Can I hear an amen?) Sometimes it takes many a nights crying ourselves to sleep and the worst thunderstorms for us to realize how close God is to us. When life is so bad and we have nothing else in this world to cling to, we will always have His Word and His guidance. Now if that doesn’t give you hope, I don’t know what can. Our reliance on Him and His Word helps everything else to fade away.

So when you are lost and lonely and just feel like giving up. Don’t lose hope dear friend. God is with you. He has an insanely awesome plan for you. And no matter what you are facing today or what you will face tomorrow, keep the faith knowing that God will bring you through this storm. It’s in our weakest moments where we become our strongest and learn to truly rely on God. Dear friend, please know that God never leaves you. He will never forsake and will always be your shoulder to cry on as you face the storms of life. Sometimes God’s blessings come through the raindrops of life.

If you have never listened to one of the songs I’ve featured, please do so this one time. Take a minute and listen to this beautifully written song, you’ll thank me for it later. Go here to tune in.)

Blessings by Laura Story

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home,
It’s not our home

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
