I’m seriously considering redoing my entire guest bedroom. We literally have done nothing to it since we moved in and it’s about time. It still has the ABC wallpaper border that the previous owners felt the need to put up. And it has these horribly bare white walls. It is definitely time for a revamp.

Have you ever sat back and looked at something and realized how badly it needed a revamp? It’s like one day you look in the mirror and realize you need to start exercising. The truth is you always knew you needed to do it, but now you’re finally taking the initiative. When your house gets messy, it’s not like you wake up one day and think a tornado went through your downstairs. In the days or even weeks leading up to that “ah-ha” moment, you knew deep down what really needed to be done. You need to hit the gym, your house needs cleaned, you want a career change, you need a new wardrobe, the list goes on. We can think of plenty of things in our life that need a complete makeover. But what about your relationship with God? Does your faith need a revamp?

As Christians, we sometimes put ourselves on auto-pilot and end up doing things without purpose, without thinking.

We read the Bible every morning out of habit or we go to church just because we go every Sunday. We do a lot of things without thinking because as humans we are creatures of habit. We are simply going through the motions. And while some of us have “ah-ha” moments that help us make the change, a lot of us just need to take the initiative to make the first step.

And just like with weight loss or a room renovation, revamps on your faith take time. They don’t just happen overnight. Piece by piece things will fall into place and come into order. We slowly allow God to take control over the situations in our life and begin to fully rely on Him. It’s time to make a change. We cannot allow ourselves to continue to go through the motions any longer. Let go and let God revamp your faith and your life.

Below is the chorus to the song “The Motions” by Matthew West. If you haven’t heard it, you should definitely check it out here on YouTube. It’s totally one of those songs that you will find yourself singing to at the top of your lungs as you drive down the highway…or maybe that’s just me. 😉

“I don’t wanna go through the motions
I don’t wanna go one more day
Without your all consuming passion inside of me
I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions”
